Derek Armiger Honoured with Jill Dando Award for Bravery
A bus driver was crowned the bravest man in Britain yesterday after tackling a gunman in an armed robbery. Derek Armiger received the highest civilian award the police can bestow, the Jill Dando Award, at the Police Federation Bravery Awards in association with The Sun newspaper, held in London last night.
Before the prestigious ceremony Derek attended a glitzy reception at 10 Downing Street, where he met Prime Minister David Cameron along with 58 police officers also being awarded honours.
Mr Armiger said: "This award is a huge honour and I feel very privileged to have been named Britain's bravest person. It is also poignant as I was a huge fan of Jill Dando and to be given an award in her name is special to me."
Among the celebrity guests were the BBC's Gabby Logan and former EastEnder Brooke Kinsella. Chat show host Jeremy Kyle presented an award with Corrie's Sue Cleaver.
