The Blue Mile – Race for the Environment is the UK’s newest mass-participation event designed to get you immersed in our wonderful watery environment and raise some money for charity.
Swimmers, kayakers and paddle boarders rose to the challenge for the first event in Plymouth by covering a mile at sea as quickly as possible.
Organisers said they hoped the Blue Mile would become an annual event. Event director, Plymouth yachtsman Conrad Humphreys, said: "It's a race for the environment and it's designed to get people actively engaged with our blue waters."
The Blue Mile's charity partner is the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Natasha Barker, senior marine policy officer at WWF-UK, said: "The Blue Mile is a fun event which aims to educate and inspire people to value our marine environment."
